This project has been prepared for the Odakule Passage National Design Competition initiated by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry.
Odakule Passage is a space that connects two streets while maintaining a pedestrian circulation thanks to its location and architectural style. A natural flow of wind exists due to Tepebaşı’s microclimatic features and formed corridor’s air circulation. Parallels between the air flow and pedestrian circulation leads the wind to become a medium to stand within and tried to be transformed into a process of experience.

To make the passage have traces of the building and its owner Istanbul Chamber of Industry, the wind factor has been expressed with cogs, which are the industry’s most fundamental elements.
The project consists of cogs that move together with the help of a turbine affected by the active wind. Cogs and the construction that supports them is planned to be placed on the upper opening between two masses.
Turning the wind that transforms the passage’s own potential to energy through a wind turbine into a living image via old machine cogs makes a reference to history of machinery while also referring to renewable sources of energy.
As the wind is a renewable energy, it is always in a constant state of motion. Cogs are the concretized holistic objects of this motion.
The design is intended to present its own structural aesthetic with no stylizing. When there is no wind, this installation is perceived as a long, thin and monolithic statue with the impact of shadows.
