There is something about this historical bath that goes beyond history. Something beyond archetypal forms: The power that unveils when human being forms the matter and the matter forms the space and light. The timeless essence of architecture originates from this relationship between human being, space and light. Regardless of which age the building belongs to, or the century that the person who experiences the space lives in, the power of architecture touches deeply to human soul.
The bath is located inside a city, a history, a context: a 19. century building in today's city of Antalya. However, when one steps inside the soğukluk (the entrance hall), today's context is left outside. The only thing that links the space to today's context is the sunlight that leaks through thick walls. In the next cell, ılıklık, the light enters into space through the holes in the dome. The
light, being either intensified or loosened according to the position of sun, leaks through the dome and reflects on the wall in various forms. Resembling a gnomon...
 
But can it be claimed that the light belongs to any particular time?
 
Now we take one step ahead and enter sıcaklık. This is the core of the bath. Again a porous dome, covering one cell.  But in this place, there is no trace of the time of the world outside. The light that leaks into the space has broken its links with today, behaves regardless of time. Time itself behaves in a different way than the worldly time-space. It almost tries to vanish its own existence. Space moves in a time regime which is foreigner to this world. The space becomes timeless.
Thus, the timeless frees itself even from the flow of time. What remains is the sole essence of an ungraspable existence, which both time and space belong to.
